Rhubarb Nut Bread

1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg (slightly beaten)
1 cup sour milk (sour milk by adding 1 tsp. lemon juice or vinegar)
2 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 1/2 cup chopped rhubarb
2/3 cup oil, or melted shortening, or margarine
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat together brown sugar, oil, and egg. Mix soda, salt, vanilla and sour milk and add to first ingredients. Add flour, rhubarb, and nuts. Pour batter in a well greased and floured loaf pan. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 tbsp. butter, sprinkle over the bread. Bake at 325° for 1 1/4 hour or until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Run a knife around the edge of the bread and then tip out onto wax paper.
