Quick Bread Tips
You will need to purchase a couple loaf pans.
I prefer to use the smaller loaf pans, a recipe that calls for a regular size loaf pan
will make about 3 of the smaller loaves. You can buy tin foil pans but if you like quick
breads investing in pans is best. I like to pick them up at thrift shops and if the pans
look a little rusty they will come clean with a little work and a sos pad. If the pans
look a dark brown that is fine they just have been used a lot and they will be better to
bake in as they are well seeded. You can buy very cheap ones or pay for the teflon coated
any will work in the end. Just be sure to grease the bottom and sides and give them a coat
of flour. If you don't want to buy pans, you may save cans that you get vegetable or fruit in
and use then the same way you use a loaf pan fill then half full. Date Bread
Most of the quick breads can have other ingredients added to them without a big change
in the recipe. Nuts, raisens, currents, coconut, ect, can be added.
Quick breads are very good to freeze and have on hand when unexpected guests visit.
You can quickly thaw them in the microwave and serve them.
Some quick breads are good with a very light butter frosting, or powdered sugar
lightly sprinkled on top. A mixture of cinnamon and sugar is also good. For christmas
a powdered sugar mixed with a bit of green, or red food coloring is nice.
These breads make wonderful gifts at christmas, I like to buy colored plastic wrap,
red, and green to wrap them in with a christmas bow. This would make a nice birthday gift
for someone in you family, friend or co worker.
